Q. What can happen if an application fails? A. When a device, connection or application fails, it can take down mission critical operations. Sometimes, one systems failure will cascade to applications on other systems that rely on the data or services from the failed unit. Data centers are the biggest challenges facing IT executives in the coming years. Develop a dashboard of data center energy-efficient metrics that provide appropriate data to different levels of IT and financial management. Five issues IT managers must consider to ensure smooth data center operations are as follows: Regulatory compliance, disaster recovery/business continuance, power, Hosted Solutionscooling, and IT as a service will be dominant themes in the coming year as companies work to manage their IT assets to support business goals. Virtual machines offer many benefits: server consolidation, increased utilization and faster recovery times after failure. Desktop virtualization enables a centralized server to deliver and manage individualized desktops remotely. This gives users a full client experience, but lets IT staff provision, manage, upgrade and patch them virtually, instead of physically. To qualify as a true enterprise solution, a storage management system must be able to scale across the entire enterprise. This means it must be able to handle multiple servers spread across wide geographical areas. The solution should further leverage technologies such as clustering and load balancing to support hundreds or even thousands of client computers. It also must support various network infrastructures and firewall configurations. The Cisco UCS uses three adapter types, with four specific models: the Cisco UCS 82598KR-CI 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, UCS M71KR-Q QLogic Converged Network Adapter, UCS M71KR-E Emulex Converged Network Adapter, and UCS M81KR Virtual Interface Card. Each of these cards has a pair of 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections to the Cisco Unified Computing System backplane that support the IEEE 802.1 Data Center Bridging function (formerly called Cisco Data Center Ethernet) to facilitate I/O unification within these adapters. On each adapter type, one of these backplane ports is connected through 10GBASE-KR to the A-side I/O module; then that connection goes to the A-side fabric interconnect. 10GBASE-KR is a copper midplane technology for interfacing adapters and switching elements through these midplanes. The other connection is 10GBASE-KR to the B-side I/O module; that connection then goes to the B-side fabric interconnect. Figure 3 later in this document shows this connectivity. There is growing pressure from environmentalists and, increasingly, the general public for governments to offer green incentives: monetary support for the creation and maintenance of ecologically responsible technologies. Data storage systems are used in a variety of businesses for the purpose of storing and maintaining data which is critical to the operation of the businesses and their customers. It is very important that such data storage systems be highlyreliable to minimize or eliminate the chance of losing data if the system fails. The most secure and reliable systems employ total redundancy, in which every component of the system is replicated, such that, upon a failure of a component, anothercomponent takes over operation, so that the data storage system can remain fully functional. For example, two storage processors may be provided in a system such that if one fails, the other assumes the operation of the failed processor as well asmaintaining its own. However, total redundancy is expensive and can be an inefficient use of system resources. A broad group of industry-leading partners supports the open, standards-based unified fabric architecture of the Cisco Nexus 5010 Switch. This switch also delivers more than 500 Gbps of switching capacity with 20 fixed wirespeed 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports that support Data Center Ethernet and FCoE. In addition, one expansion port supports 8-port 1/2/4 Gigabit Fibre Channel, 4-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet (Data Center Ethernet and FCoE) and 4-port 1/2/4 Gigabit Fibre Channel, and 6-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet (Data Center Ethernet and FCoE). |
